My Story

Floral Design by Emma Walker

My path to flowers was not a straight one, but perhaps that is why it feels so deeply rooted.

For ten years, I worked as a professional newborn and family photographer and trainer — quietly documenting the earliest days of life, holding space for tenderness, connection and fleeting moments. But over time, as the studio photography industry shifted, I felt a quiet pull away from it. What once filled me began to feel distant, and I found myself searching for something slower, something more grounded — something that felt like home.

That search led me back to learning. I began a BSc in Ecology and Conservation at the University of Lincoln, expecting to be drawn toward animal conservation. Instead, I found myself captivated by the botanical world — by plants, soil, growth and the quiet intelligence of the natural landscape.

It was there that something shifted.

I started small, with seeds and curiosity. I built my own greenhouse — restoring a beautiful second-hand structure, bringing it gently back to life — and began growing fruit and vegetables. Soon after came flowers. From seed trays to first blooms, I became completely absorbed in the process: the patience, the unpredictability, the quiet joy of tending something from beginning to end.

What began as a garden slowly became a cutting space — a place to step into each day, to notice, to gather, to breathe in scent and colour. Among the stems and seasons, I began to teach myself floristry, guided by instinct and a desire to honour the natural forms I was growing.

And from there, Ember & Moss Botanicals was born.

My work now is an extension of that journey — from lens to land, from observing life to nurturing it. Each arrangement carries with it that same intention: to be present, to work gently, and to create something that feels both wild and quietly considered.

This is not just about flowers, but about returning to rhythm, to soil, and to something honest.

MY PHILOSOPHY

At Ember & Moss Botanicals I am rooted in mindful cultivation and seasonal design. I grow my own flowers in my cutting garden, with care for the land and respect for nature — no pesticides, no shortcuts. From seed to stem to studio, every bloom reflects my commitment to sustainable beauty and the quiet rhythms of the garden.

My work blends horticulture, botany and ecology with the craft of floristry. Each arrangement is shaped by the seasons, by what grows well here and what compliments the natural palette of the earth. I believe that flowers deserve to be grown, gathered and designed with intention.

I strive to create designs that feel both wild and refined, alive with texture and grounded in elegance. My promise: honest materials, considered composition and a gentle connection to the place where they began. Because beautiful florals are most meaningful when they are sincere, seasonal and sustainably grown.
